About Umbwe Route

The Umbwe Route is the trail for trekkers looking for a true climbing challenge. It is a quiet, seldom used path that can be very difficult, yet very rewarding at the same time.

This is the route to choose if you want to test yourself on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, far from the crowds that are found on the more common trails.

While Umbwe route is a non-technical climb, it does offer steep ascents and requires trekkers to scramble over rocks and tree roots at certain points.

It is the hardest and most direct route up the mountain and even features several exposed ridges that are not for the faint of heart.

Umbwe route is one of the shortest routes to the Southern Glaciers and the Western Breach and it’s the most hardest and challenging route on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Hotels, Tea Houses and Lodges

With the rapid growth of tourism industry in Tanzania in early 1990's major towns and all National Parks have developed a large number of hostel, hotels, lodges, Luxury tented Lodges and Campsites, all these places are comfortable and secured to stay during your expedition.

Tanzania is home to some amazing settings for an Africa Safari,a untouched wilderness. Tanzania Safaris and lodges is home to a treasure trove wildlife and vast.

Three types of accommodation

Luxury Lodges: Tanzania has an impressive number of five-star hotels, luxury beach resorts, city escapes, boutique guesthouses, and luxury safari camps and lodges.

Private Islands: For a real treat after a safari adventure, head east to Pemba island or Mnemba island for a desert-island-lost-in-a-tropical-paradise experience, and a true barefoot luxury holiday.

Tented Camps: In many of the national parks and conservation areas, you can find luxu and mid-range tented camps. These put you closer to nature, whilst retaining all the amenities and creature comforts you want on a safari.

Food selections in a safari:

Most lodges which are booked during safaris in Tanzania prepare food which their guests are used to and during the reservations stage; the guest can inform the lodge of any special dietary requests and the chef will prepare the meals to the satisfaction of the guest.

Breakfast or brunch: You can expect anything from omelets to quiches with a variety of salads. Continental breakfast is also typically served with toast, sausage, pastries, charcuterie, cold meat, coffee, and tea. Cereals, fruits, bread, eggs, and cheese are also very common.

Lunch: More often than not, lunches are served picnic style in the middle of your game drive. Sometimes, guides/drivers also take you back to the lodge or camp for a hearty meal before going on an afternoon or sundowner game drive. Food is usually composed of sandwiches and fruits.

Dinner: Prepared at the lodge or camp, dinner is usually served in three courses: soup, mains, and pudding. Butternut soup, vegetable curry, and fruit pudding is a very common combo, but of course, there will be a variety during your stay ranging from meat, fish and pasta dishe served with assorted vegetables and sauces.
